In einem Vergleich von vieren dieser Handbücher kam Ellermann zu dem Schluss, dass sie sich an "der 'klassischen Erzählweise' des Hollywood-Kinos" orientieren. Er kritisiert den dramaturgischen Aufbau in diesen Werken damit, dass sie sich alle an der geschlossenen Form des Dramas orientieren und somit die Möglichkeit einer offenen Form ausschließen.
